Snow B'Aire

It is cold.  Very cold.  While we didn't get the Snowmageddon that some other east coast cities got (I'm lookin' straight at you Philly - not that sorry we moved right about now!), we did get around 8" of snow.  Because I have feet like velcro snowshoes, I have to endure this indignity each year and put on the booties.  I know, I know, I'm always unhappy when my feet get stuffed with ice balls and my toes burn from salt and de-icer, but I just don't love 'em.  I do wear them, though, after mama reminds me how crappy it is when I don't (and she doesn't let me out to pee until I put them on).

So there's that.

Stay warm and un-salt-y!

Leaving My Mark

Twas a wee bit frosty out this morning, the first I have encountered here in Pittsburgh.  Yes, winter is coming and I am preparing by ignoring mama as she starts to pull my sweatshirts, coats, and the dreaded booties out of storage.

During the morning's stick-catching frolics, I laid down for a moment to catch my breath.  To be fair, I was running for quite a stretch, uphill, and that's not super simple for a gentleman of my maturity and stature.  So I laid down, caught up, and then it was off again.  But I left behind this note-quite-snow-angel, more like a frosty-handsome-devil.

Man of Adventure

Nothing can stop me when there are pine cones around. NOTHING.

THROW ME A CONE!

Um, thanks.

CONE CONE CONE CONE CONE CONE CONE CONE

Look.  I let you clean my toes.  I wore the potentially-humiliating Flashdance-style sweatshirt.  I'm wearing the damn booties.  GIVE ME MY CONE

I do love this snow.  Even though there has been way too much of it this year.  Yes, it's cold.  Yes, it's inconvenient.  Yes, it means I have to wear the dreaded booties.  But it's quite lovely, especially early in the morning once the sun has come up but most of Philadelphia is still asleep.  Oh, and thanks for the cone!

Non Blizz-aire-d

Geez. The humans were so upset about a storm that was supposed to dump feet of snow here in Philadelphia - um, no.

The winds, did however bring down a LOT of tasty sticks. For which I am grateful.

Stick after stick after stick, getting in my jumping practice as well as perfectly my eagle eye.

Nothing can break my laser-like focus, the direct trajectory that I calculate from the ground up to that tasty stick.

Heading directly for it, grasping it in my mighty jaws, nothing else exists...

Well, HELLO BEAUTIFUL

Snow Beard

Not just everyone can sport such a fine snow beard.

You have to start with a fine beard.  Years of growth.  Layers of previous goodness.

Then just go for it.  Stick that snout into the first snow drift that you see.

Show off your fine profile...

And own it - own that snow beard.  Wear it loud, and wear it proud!

Snow Day - Surprise!

This morning, the view from my bedroom window looked like this - but mama still had to go to work.  Really?  Work?  On a day like this?

So as she was putting on clothes other than her dog-walking ones, we got a phone call.  SNOW DAY!!!

And I know exactly how to do a snow day.  The first order of business is a MASSIVE CUDDLE PARTY.

See?  Even Happy Bunny agrees (and he's the most self-centered toy ever - a few of his choice phrases are "Lets talk about me", "You suck and that's sad", and "Hi, Loser!").

Come on, YOU KNOW YOU WANNA CUDDLE

Cuddling accomplished - guess what's next on the Bogart Snow Day menu?

If you said Big Walk in the Snow, congratulate yourself - that's correct!

I fully realize that the snow is up to my chest.  That my mighty paws are completely buried as I scamper about.  AND I DON'T CARE

I can even find the odd stick that is above snow-ground.  Lots of 'em have fallen in the park, the weight of the snow on the tree branches being overwhelming for some of them.  Good for me, tho.

It's almost like swimming, but it's not.  As in, I'm kind of buried but I cannot move.  Maybe it's time to head to higher ground, or lower snow.

I likey what some people do when confronted with overwhelming snow.  This was a huge snowman - simple, yes, but he made up in stature what he lacked in detail.

Rock on, Philadelphia!

Bogie, Poo, and Tigger Too

Big day for me - 5 poops, tying my all-time record!

And on top of that, I found this sweet Tigger toy at the free bins outside the Philly AIDS Thrift Store.  SCORE!

Mine Mine Mine

Oh mama, just because I have to stop to pee doesn't mean that I've forgotten about my new plushy friend!  GIMME THAT

Oh, you want me to work for it?  To jump in the air, doing some incredible feat of Dale gymnastics?  Ah... I DON'T THINK SO

OK.  I WANT THAT TIGGER.  You win, I'll do whatever silly thing that you want.  GIMME TIGGER

Snow modelling?  BUT OF COURSE...

Full-on snow snout, spiffy new coat from Max, wide smile with head cocked jauntily to the side - check, check, and CHECK!
You may of course occasionally carry Tigger.  Anyone else will have to pry him from my cold, dead paws...

Winter Wondaireland

How do you make it better when you've forgotten that it's going to snow - and your human companion is unprepared?  Point out the pine cones that are bigger than both of your heads.  Of course.

Yes it was a surprise snowstorm for the inhabitants of Casa Bogart, but not for the general Philadelphia population apparently.  We spent the morning slipping and sliding around on our way to Rittenhouse Square park...

Which is lovely.  Some hearty souls were even out for a mini farmers market (I spotted fish and mushroom vendors).

While I posed majestically.  Yet again.  Full snow beard effect.  Oh you say, you can't see it?

Ta-da!

Surprise Snowfall

Well for once mama wasn't the only one surprised at a snowstorm here in Portland...

It seems like a lot of the other humans had no idea it was going to snow, and were similarly unprepared for the weather. Lots of slipping and sliding around, and don't get me started on the drivers...

I kept on my sweatshirt all day because it was cold!

I do like the snow - it's tasty, and it's fun to walk in. Until it gets icy and slippery, that is.

In Jameson Park there is a big Christmas tree, and it was a magnet for people and their pups tonight.

For me - eh, I've seen it and I've peed on it, so it's been there, done that.

This snowman, was another story. I really do not like snowmen. They taunt me with their beady little eyes, that crooked smile, the funny hat, and of course STICKS for arms. How could I not be confused? I barked and barked but it would not back down, and annoyed me to the point that I felt it was better to just walk away - slowly - rather than to engage.

You may have won this battle Snowman, but I'LL BE BACK once the temperature rises, and THEN we'll see who's boss...

What a Difference a Day Makes...

WOW. Can you believe that just yesterday this was under almost a whole foot of snow?

Yep, this is where I take my morning walkies, and for the last week or so it's been kind of treacherous. Almost 2 feet of snow and ice was here - the last full snow was on Christmas day - until it started to rain yesterday. And rain, and rain, and rain...

I'm quite happy about it, although I will miss the snow. It was my first real snow so I shall always have fond memories of jumping in it and smooshing my face deep into a nice, frosty pile.

But the good thing is that now since the snow is gone, we can drive again! Yes, we were housebound for over a week, only able to get out to walk around a bit before we got cold and scared of falling on ice. So we decided to do a little walkie tour of Hawthorne Blvd. as we haven't been here in awhile... I paused to check on some of the last snow piles - some definite yellow-ness in there - just to make sure there weren't any overdue messages for me...

Nope, no messages. Onward ho!

Ah, the Portland Pet Supply. I always love this place, it smells so good inside. But alas, they are not open on Sundays, even for a special visit from me...

I even got my head all the way inside the bars to check - just to be sure - that they were indeed closed. Yup.

It's ok - there is still plenty to see, sniff, and poop on. I almost caught mama and dad off-guard, as they haven't been used to bringing poopie bags with them for awhile now... when I've gotta go, I've gotta go, poopie bag or not! Luckily there was still one in dad's pocket, so they were spared - this time.

This sign made mama giggle - and she thought that some of you doggies might have mama's that would giggle about this as well...

Ah, a nice long walkie accomplished, time to get back into the Bogcedes and head for home. A lot of the time when I ride in the back seat (I call it the Chairman's Quarters), I lay down and put my head up onto the back of either mama or dad's seat and rest like this. I find it relaxing and reassuring to have my nose right up against mama or dad's necks...

And I know that mama especially likes to feel some manly beard on her shoulder...

And some hot canine breath...

And of course, THE BUTTON
