A Dale Near a Manger

So today I was doing my normal morning walkie through Old City, when I SMELLED SOMETHING. Mama wasn't sure why I decided to go in a new direction, and quite honestly, neither was I. But I knew that I had to get to the bottom of that smell. So we wandered further up Race Street, and suddenly, THERE IT WAS:

A live nativity scene with sheep, goats, and a donkey.

Well, there is something you don't see every day. Or smell every day. I thought they smelled quite wonderful, in fact.

Please Do Not Feed the Animals - I have no idea what this means.  Those little buggers seem hungry to me, they're eating the hay (I'd have to be pretty hungry to eat hay).

The donkey was hilarious.  Most of the time he sat in the back, behind the cutouts of the (kind of freaky looking) Mary and Joseph.  It was as if he decided that it's just too damn cold outside and he wasn't going to put on any dog-and-pony show (well why should he, he's a DONKEY) for anyone.  I appreciated his attitude.

This little furry guy was my favorite.  Not only did he smell the best, but he was affectionate and well, just so damn cute.

And then it happened - the ladies came outside with their buckets of goodness, and much excitement came over the herd.

The goats are the smartest - they seem to have this whole "live nativity scene" thing figured out.  Be shameless, bleat like crazy, and you will get fed first.  A-OK in my book.

Everyone else was a little slower on the uptake, busy with their hay eating, even though the ladies had much more delicious treats.  Come on guys, THEY HAVE SNACKS

And then, as if by magic, they all headed over to the snack bowl.  Even the lazy donkey.

The ladies did indeed have the good stuff, and everyone was apparently good this year so they were going to get goodies.

CARROTS FOR EVERYONE!

Wood-n't You Like To Know

Cool, right?

Caught my eye too - I haven't seen this before and I walk through here (that is, I poop here) on a semi-regular basis.  It's a new mural on the side of The Center for Art in Wood.  Quite intriguing...

I found myself wanting to check out all of the objects that I could see, and would normally want to chomp on, but was unable to.  And I approve of the black-and-tan color scheme.

Something like this - now, it should be available for chomping.  But no.  It just sits there, taunting me.  Looks like a dog toy and everything.  And lets not forget that STICKS ARE MADE FROM WOOD, so I know of what I speak.

Iron Butterfly

Look at that... up in the sky... it's a bird, it's a plane, no...

It's butterflies made out of old soda cans.

Pretty darned cool, eh?  Saw them on our way to watch the Pride Parade today.  Happy Pride Month everyone - Lots of rainbow lovin' all around!

Stop the Pigeon...

In walking around Old City tonight, mama and I stumbled onto this scene:

We walk past here all of the time, and it's usually an empty lot.  The chair caught mama's attention, but the pigeons caught mine.

Ah, it's art.

You could have fooled me.  I was pretty intent on getting at some of those tasty pigeons.
I stared at them for quite awhile, waiting for one to make a move closer to my mouth.  Alas, they don't move at all.  Cool for mama, disappointing for me.

So Very Civilized

Well, well, well... you just NEVER KNOW what you're going to see when you're out on a walkie...

Still hot.

But what is this?

OH HELL YEAH, the troughs that hold water for the horses that cart around tourists also have a handy-dandy fountain for dogs.  Absolutely brilliant.  I'm liking this city more and more.

You get to look around at lots of charming old buildings and things, AND there is a water trough.

YUM!

New Times in Old City

Ice, Ice, Baby... (dum dum dum dum da da dum dum)

I was first attracted to the leaking bags because, well, anything leaking on the street gets my attention.  But.. just bags of ice.  A bunch of humans seemed to be planning some sort of party to which I apparently wasn't invited.  Silly fools, don't you know that I BRING THE PARTY...

Anyway...

Spring has sprung here in Old City, the sun is out and people are smiling.  LOTS of Airedmiration going on today.  Many visitors walking around with maps, looking up just in time to see my fuzzy mug and smile.

Ah, another dog store.  I can sniff 'em out pretty much anywhere.

BONeJOUR to you too!

I wanted to go inside - mama insisted that she didn't have her wallet, and since I didn't have mine either (still working on generating some cash myself), I just left a message.

Springtime brings out flags...

And the grass is beginning to get green again.

But wait... there seems to be a large number of people in MY park.  More than usual.  Must investigate.

Notice the technique - sneaking up on them, whistling (if I could whistle), looking around as though I'm just part of the background.

Apparently we'd missed the main thrust of the day - there was a gigantic pillow fight today in Washington Square Park.  You crazy humans...

I too engage in some fine pillow fighting when I need to wrassle it away from mama in the middle of the night or correct a cat who has somehow found themselves sleeping on my bed.  But in public?  I think not.

Well, well, well... HUBBA HUBBA!  This fine wire fox gal is named Minx, and what a cutie pie she is!

She's got fine terrier spirit and adorable ears.  I like that in a girl.

Big kisses to ya Miss Minxie - hope we can do some more sniffin' soon!

Me and My Shadow

There is something ominous in the streets of Philadelphia... all you have to do is look up - yep, it's a trash bag in a tree.

And that's not the only thing that is worth looking up for - look!  It's MY SHADOW

It's been awhile since it was lovely enough outside to catch me and my shadow.  All the more reason to grab those sticks kids, and hold on for the ride!

I like to visit all of the parks in the neighborhood, stick proudly in maw.  Also makes it very easy to move through crowds.

Up stairs, across parks, it's all good.  And there are a LOT more sticks to be found here...

... on our way to Old City.  Both mama and I really like walking around this part of the city, looking into gallery windows and checking out new potential restaurants and shops to visit.  And on the weekends, the Airedmiration is INTENSE...
