NOMSS Friend

I have two great new kitty friends - and they picked ME to be their new Not-of-my-species Special Friend!

I am TOTALLY excited, I'm a guy who LOVES MY KITTIES! I know that not all dogs like cats, and I am aware of the commonly-held belief that dogs and cats are enemies, but I do share my life with 4 of the little furry critters and I've gotta say that not only have they taught me a LOT (how to pull down the bag of treats so that Kafka - the orange tabby - can rip it open and we can all feast on cat treats) but they spend every day with me, sometimes we even sleep together.

So if ya like the felines like I do, check out:

Kung Fu Fighting

So the day started out kinda fun...

We went to Los Feliz to have some lunch at Fred 62 - the hipster hangout - and we got a nice table outside with some shade for me. I had a great view of the passing hipster parade, and was also in full view so that everyone could say how cute I am and give my head a pat. Mmm, good times.

Seems pretty good... and everything was until...

Last night I went over to Heidi's house to celebrate my Boxer Babe's birthday. I brought her one of my favorite bones wrapped in a red ribbon!

Heidi's mom made a lovely cake and all was well until...

Another big doggie came over named Diesel. Mom didn't realize he was coming in and well, lets just say that Diesel and I took an instant dislike to each other when we met in the living room. Yep, we had a little tussle. It actually wasn't that bad until he got a hold of my ear and bit hard. I yelped like a baby and ran over to mom.

She immediately took me home and tried to get the bleeding to stop, I had to wear this lovely contraption (thanks for the photos mom). It stopped bleeding after awhile but then again this morning on my morning walkie with dad I managed to open it again. So now I'm back to the towel-on-the-head thingie. But it's gonna be ok, I had a good sleep and I'm gonna go take a nap now.

I've got a nasty little hole in the bottom of my ear. Yes it might get me some street cred but damn, that hurt!

Zen Puppy

Zen Puppy

Ok, I was never meant to get these.

Zen Puppy

It's not that I don't deserve them - I can indeed Zen out - it's just that when mom first saw them in the supermarket they were 8 dollars for a box. A little pricey for a dog who doesn't like most dog food.

Zen Puppy

But tonight there was a breakthrough - she saw them in the 99cent store.

Zen Puppy

So rather than going gung-ho and buying lots of boxes, she cleverly bought one. The energy one. Since most likely I wouldn't like 'em.

Zen Puppy

Zen Puppy

Guess what? THEY'RE DELICIOUS! And I don't like many treats, much dog food, and even most human food. I gulped down a few without hesitation. So mom, what are you waiting for? Get back to the 99cent store and get me some MORE!!!

Zen Puppy

Zen Puppy

So if any premium dog food or treat companies want to run their new products past the most finicky dog in the universe, I'M YOUR MAN.

Staircase 101 for Mitch

I just read on my friend’s Maggie & Mitch’s blog that Mitch is having some difficulty in learning how to use the stairs. So I thought I’d help.

Personally I’d just be following Miss Maggie’s pretty butt up and down those stairs (all day long) but I hope this little tutorial helps ya buddy!

The Airedale Habit

Ah, Saturdays. For lunch today after mom got out of work we decided to head over to Glendale... at first I thought hey, that means a Rally Burger but no. Today it was The Habit so mom could have a veggie burger too...

No burger for me, dad must have been a hungry man. A few fries "fell" off the table from moms side, so I was happy to scoop those up.

Then we had another "Aire sighting" moment.. I of course LOVE it when folks know that I'm an Airedale (and not a muppet, a something-doodle, or a stuffed animal like most humans seem to think I am) and not only did these humans know I was an Airedale but they had had a Dale of their very own named Bear awhile ago.

We sat and told Aire-stories and then mom HAD to have us pose for some photos - this is me and my new friend Carrie, she's an excellent head-scratcher! Thanks for the petting, I hope you guys get a new Airedale of your own sometime soon!

(and I'd better get a burger next time...)

New Ear-cut

Mom has been going on for awhile now about my scraggly ears... ok, so maybe they're a teeny tiny bit scruffy and overgrown, but hey, I'm not really into anyone plucking out the hair on my delicate ears. So today mom got out the scissors and trimmed away all around the outline so that they're nice and triangle-shaped. I've still got lots of black in my ears which means I still get to be spoiled like a baby mom!!!

At first I was a bit embarrassed - my ears looked so short now! - so I didn't want to put my ears forward in the photos to show 'em off...

I was doing everything to thwart mom's efforts to take a nice photo of her handiwork.

Nice try mom! I laugh in the face of your pathetic attempt at ear-tography...

Even Behemoth the cat thinks it's a lost cause...

The Neighborhood Threat

Continuing on my Distract-A-Dale tour (so I don't cry every day over the passing of my buddy Oscar), today I thought I'd take you around my neighborhood a little by video...

The first thing I encounter most mornings when I leave my apartment is "The Canine Interloper", a doggie who lives right next door and, ahem, "greets" me by barking and running in wild circles every time he sees me. He's awfully cute, but since he doesn't ever want to play nice, I just walk on by...

A flock of crows have taken over MY PARK in the mornings. They are BIG and they are LOUD and they follow me on my walkie. They used to bother me but now I'm not that interested... since they just fly away whenever I've chased them I lost interest.

Distract-A-Dale

Bogie's Cool Stick

Continuing my ongoing Distract-a-Dale campaign (so I'm not crying about my buddy Oscar)...

Bogie's Cool Stick

Check out this cool mucho-macho stick I found this morning! (not to mention that nice, crusty tongue-coating I'm working on)...

All I wanna do is sit peacefully under a tree (yes, it HAS to be in the shade, it's too freakin' hot out there!) and chew on my new-found best-stick-friend. But noooooo....

Bogie's Cool Stick

Ultimately, I will get my way...

The Day After

We've been sooo sad about the passing of our dear friend Oscar, mom thought we needed to get out of the house and try to be happy again - to do some fun, different things. So we piled into the Bogie-mobile and off we went for a very full day (it takes a LOT to distract us from cryin' about our buddy)...

First things first - I had a refreshing shower with Dad. As much as I'm not really into getting wet, I do have to say that after the shower is over I feel mighty fresh and good. Runnin' around the apartment, aire-drying, rubbing up against everything. Now I'm READY...

The first stop was a little drive away - we went to Larchmont Village, one of the few walking streets in Los Angeles.

Lots of little shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. Lots of people too because they apparently have a farmers market there on Sundays (and no dogs allowed inside - barbarians!) so we had to do a lot of walking "around" it. No worries for me, lots of people had dogs with them (they must have had the same idea we did and were big fans of Oscar too). Oddly, most of the doggies weren't that friendly to me and had to be pulled back by their owners. But I maintained calm and didn't get into any arguments... I wanted to see everything!

Looking at properties - thinking about getting my own backyard sometime...

Mom thought it would be funny to get me a real haircut at the Barber Shop but haha mom - they're CLOSED on Sunday!!! So just a little posing and an inside joke.

Then I started sniffing around this shop... thought maybe I'd pick up a little something for some of my Aire-girl friends (was thinkin' of Miss Maggie, Sunshade, Putter, the Airechicks, Allegra, Maggie 2, & Faya and maybe a little somethin' for Snickers...).

It gave me a *special* twitter so I happily posed for the photo.

We wanted to eat some lunch but every cafe was pretty crowded... so we headed to Old Town Pasadena and a place where they always give me great treatment, Malagueta!

I had my own area to lay down, and a nice, cold bowl of water. Even a few pieces of mozzarella cheese fell down magically from mom's plate. Mmm mmm mmm.

I thought we'd be heading home after that, but instead we went over to dad's friend Stephen's house nearby... I haven't been there in AGES and got really excited. Now mom says that she was a little wary about us going over there because the last time we were there I got into a little doggie argument with one of their doggies (they have 3). So she wasn't sure if this was going to work...

But she had nothing to worry about, the one doggie that I don't get along with was in the backyard and we got to run around in the front yard. Yay! Running in grass, playing with doggies, this is great fun for an apartment-dog like me.

Sitting by the pool with the humans was fun too - although sometimes their conversation gets a little bit boring. But they had doggie cookies and they were sitting in the shade, so I was happy to join their little party.

Very relaxing, then a nice, easy drive home.

Mom and dad were relaxed too and didn't feel like cooking dinner (well, they cooked MINE so basically all is well with the world) so off we went AGAIN, this time to our local Mexican place, the Rodeo Grill. Mom and I sat outside, watching all of the hipsters slump by, while dad went in to get their burritos. One guy came up to me and was talking to mom - he's one of the waiters from Good Microbrew, the place we always go for lunch! He recognized me before he recognized mom... yes, I'm pretty memorable indeed.

So as you can see it was a BUSY day, and a fun one. Didn't make me forget about my buddy Oscar, I'll never forget about him! But I hope that he's watching, reading my blog from the Rainbow Bridge, and having a good laugh at my Aire-ventures.
