Walk Like an Airedale-ian

Potential for sunny spring-like Saturday = full rucksack with food and water for another extended Airedale tour of Portland!

For some, life is about stopping and smelling the roses. I concur, but would add that stopping to chomp the cones is MUCH more appropriate.

Let me demonstrate:

Take a moment to consider things behind you, and catch them in your mighty jaws...

Always be ready for things coming right at you, and catch them in your mighty jaws...

Before some things may pass you by, open your mighty jaws...

Think positively, aim high, and catch them with your mighty jaws...

Improve your focus, and catch them in your mighty jaws...

Stand up tall and proud... and catch them in your mighty jaws...

Don't forget to do your little dance everyday... and catch them in your mighty jaws...

And when you're just about to miss it, make a goofy face that says "I meant to do that", and run after it, pounce on it, and capture it in your mighty jaws.

Another lovely day to run in Laurelhurst Park. Luckily mama brought a big bag of food and treats and a large bottle of water today! We weren't expecting it to be so warm, and we both needed a bunch of pit stops in between stick collection and walking.

Portland is lovely and green right now, with flowers blooming all over the place. Yes mama, I'll pose with the flowers...

While it's a really long walk for us, we both really like coming to Laurelhurst Park. It's just so pretty (even the still-green algae pond).

Geese means goose-poop! Woo hoo! Gotta find a nice big pile of that to roll in... none over here...

None over here either.

Found it! Luckily mama was blinded by the sun and couldn't see me rolling in it. I'm sure she'll discover it later once we're home...

Time After Time

Time has no meaning... indeed.

While mama ponders that deep thought, I ponder a few of my own:

Like how incredibly FANTASTIC it will be when I can clamp my jaws around that fine stick!

Some of us are more easily amused than others.

All About the Poop

Well, over the last two days I've had some poop problems. Without being too descriptive or ruining anyone's dinner, things were a lot more "explosive" than they should be. Mama thinks it may be the one day that she fed me a can of food instead of my usual chicken soup. All I can say is that it's pretty darned - pardon the pun - crappy.

But that won't slow me down - today was lovely outside and the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom:

Today we are back at the "soft serve" stage. Mama is pleased. And so is my digestive tract. Here's to healthy poop!

The 24 Hour Church of Elvis

Behold... THE 24 HOUR CHURCH OF ELVIS

It's another one of those "only in Portland" kind of things. It is an art installation, and well, it defies easy explanation. Now mama and dad got married by Elvis in Las Vegas, so maybe if I ask really nicely, the spirit of Elvis will come forth and help mama and I in our darkest days.

So as "The King of Terriers" I approached "The King" and speak a language that only we two can understand.

And Elvis said, "That's All Right Mama" which I relayed to her and took to mean that everything will eventually be ok. All hail THE KING!

Uh, thank you, thank you very much...

4 Paws Up!

I'm feeling SUPER SPECIAL. The fine folks at Dogster have bestowed my humble little blog with their coveted 4 Paws Up badge!

Thanks Dogster! I will fly these badges with pride. They make my butt wiggle. And yes, I am open for cuddling anytime.

Missing in Action

Twas an interesting week for me and mama - but somehow she "forgot" to blog for me. Lets be honest here, she didn't forget. She just got lazy. We've had some great walks, there was a special bagel morning, and today I even got recognized on the street!

Apparently she feels bad about this. So I feel it necessary to take advantage of her feeling guilty. I'd like some extra treats and an extra kiss for two.

Yes, I think two will do...

All About Sticks

Lunchtime walkie!

Time to get in some good, hearty sniffing time. While I'm always looking down because that's where the good smells are, mama is usually looking down to be sure she doesn't step in those good smells. And sometimes she catches something interesting...

Looks a little like a heart, doesn't it? A heart with a polka dot, or some sort of grass-y blockage, I suppose.

This stick was taunting me from a block away. At first I stealthily snuck up behind it in a bid for a surprise attack...

But each time I tried to get it into my waiting jaws it would turn and bounce away.

Which kind of freaked me out.

So tougher measures must be taken, perhaps coming around from the opposite side might work...

Yep. I can get a mighty paw down on it so that it can't squirm.

Until, of course, something more interesting comes along taking me away from the hunt. In this case, another doggie.

But since there would be no raucous playing, I decided to teach that stick a lesson. One it would never forget. Stick you shall not mock me!

I shall pick you up and then leave you over here, in another part of the park. So there!

Trees are really fascinating things. In addition to the production of the sticks I love so much, they do tend to grow into weird and interesting shapes at times...

Obviously some extra special "watering" was done here. Well done my canine friends!

Crawfishzilla

Ruh-roh. What is that?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! Look out, it's a giant crawfish! AND IT'S GIVING US THE FINGER (ok, the claw, but I bet it's the same in the crawfish world)!!!

That was a little disquieting. Giant crustaceans aren't on my usual walkie. I usually see things involving dirt and greenery...

I've gotta get that giant crawfish out of my head. And today is a fantastically spring-like day. I'm thinking a quick trip over the Hawthorne Bridge...

And a dip in the Willamette! Come on mama, the water is n-i-c-e...

Ok, the water is filthy but it's cool and incredibly fun to run in. Lots of boats out today making little waves that come crashing onto shore and excite me to no end.

I run back and forth multiple times, each time getting more and more excited.

Occasionally I will stop and pose majestically for mama. You know, she's a sucker for a cool photo.

Need another angle mama?

Oh yeah, I'm nice and wet and muddy now. What's missing from this picture?

That's right, A NICE JUICY STICK.

Don't even think about saying no mama. I know it's about 6 foot long. WE ARE TAKING THIS STICK HOME.

Hehehe...

Updating Airedale Squidoo... Terriers soon!

As you may or may not know, I have a few dog blogging related lenses on Squidoo. I have not had the time lately to prod mama into updating them, and left to her own devices, she has managed to not update them either. I have been spending far more time with my sticks doing important things.

So the first one I'm going to tackle is the Airedale Terrier Bloggers page. Please go and check it out, and if you see an Airedale blog that's not listed please let me know.

You can leave me a comment here on my blog, or send me an email: bogarthandsomedevildog@yahoo.com. Don't forget to give me the URL of your Airedale blog. I read 'em all you know, some of them make me laugh...

Next I'll be moving on to my Terrier Bloggers page, and then the more wide open Dog Blogs page. So if you're not an Airedale, hang in there.

Help a boy out, will ya? Mama isn't much help these days. I want my Squidoo list to be as complete and full of Dale-ness as possible.

I Did it My Way

I cannot believe that it has been one year now since Klaus passed away.

The 1 on the cupcake is for two things - acknowledging that it has been one year since Klaus has been gone, and also that it has been one year into my new life. So technically I turned 1 today.

My life as I knew it ended when I lost Klaus, and it's been a rocky first year of life without him. I suppose that for any creature the first year of life is difficult - you have to learn how to do so many things, you make lots of mistakes, and you are very dependent on everyone for everything - you learn how to eat, how to breathe, and how to live. I have new eyes now - the old ones weren't good anymore - they still have that "new eye smell" and are still a bit hazy, with lots of floaters.

I can't say that I've done well, only that I've done things truly "My Way", which is the best and only way I know how.

My ever-constant companion Bogart has truly kept me alive. His devotion, his protection, and his ability to make me laugh out loud every single day help me believe that still being alive is maybe not such a bad thing. Every person who has touched me this past year has made an impression, but no one could ever be close to what Bogart has done.

And of course my kitties - the little furry devils of my heart - sleep with me every night, helping me to chase away the perpetual nightmares (that's Aeon, trying to score some frosting)...

Again... Thank You All for your love and support.

And to my dearest husband-o Klaus, I love you, I miss you, and I will see you in my dreams.

Love,

Lulu
