Won't You Take a Chance With Me

Do you ever have one of those days when nothing happens?

Klaus is still in very critical condition, but bless his big heart he hasn't gotten any worse. Just maintaining - I have to consider that a victory for the day. One in the plus column. The messages that I am receiving now are including stories and photos from some of our crazy times in New York City, Los Angeles, and lots of them from Vienna... I keep telling Klaus that he is going to have to explain more about some of these stories when he wakes up...

Right now Klaus is listening to my ipod. I have not listened to any music since this occurred, and I usually always have my ipod on. On the way back to the hospital after giving Bogart his evening walkie, I absentmindedly turned on the radio. Now here I am going to show my age - they were playing Whip It by Devo - and I started to cry and sing the song at the top of my lungs.

When a problem comes along - you must whip it

Before the cream sits out too long - you must whip it

When something's going wrong - you must whip it

Yes, I'm sure it looked as ridiculous as it sounds. Of course I was making some of the whipping motions as well. But what it did, after the song was over, was make me realize something that might be missing - music. So when I got back to the hospital I asked the nurse if I might let Klaus listen to my ipod. Well these are the fabulous nurses who let me bring Bogart into the ICU so the ipod was an easy sell.

Right now he is listening to Roxy Music's Avalon. It's my very favorite make-out album. All slow-ish songs, sexy Bryan Ferry voice...

I hope he's enjoying it. I'm enjoying thinking about him enjoying it.

Love,

Lulu

The feel of Bogie's wiry head, the sound of songs that trigger powerful memories—these are all great forms of medicine!

You know, it wasn't a coincidence that you happened to turn on that radio and hear Devo when you did—we receive the messages we need to hear in the most mysterious ways!

Glad to hear you had a relatively calm day. No change is a good change. Because Klaus can go from maintaining to improving. That's the next step.

Couldn't go to sleep here on the East Coast until I knew the latest from Portland. Now Petey can have his last walk of the night!

Wiry hugs,

Petey and his Mom

Lulu,

When klaus comes out if this, you better kick or I should say whip his ass for getting so sick.
Maybe you should put upbeat music on to get the blood flowing again, Like devo did you!
You take care of your self in this difficult time.

Hi Lulu
Klaus will hear the music. The news that Klaus has remained unchanged is good - you are right staying the same is sometimes a victory in itself.
I think you should also listen to music and sing if you feel like it. Just remember to do anything that feels right for you. You need to take extra special care of yourself right now.
We are thinking of you - stay strong.

Oh yes Lulu...Bogart visiting with his Daddy and music too how wonderful. When Uncle Bennie was in the hospital for so long the Mommy would bring her casset player & some of his favoite albums. Music was such a part of his life and he was so peacful with Samanths laying next to him and him strocking Samantha's hair. The Mommy would watch his face every day & could tell how much he loved hearing his music.

Our thoguhts and prayers are ever with you. God Bless...Mona & the Mommy

That was wonderful of the nurses to let you in to see your dad, Bogart!! I wish more hospitals could be that open-minded, and allow all members of the family in to visit.

We'll be thinking of your dad and praying for his recovery. Keep strong, and take care of your mom.

Sweet Lulu!

Whatever you do, please don't put one of those red flower pot hats on Klaus, or worse yet, take photos of him wearing one. You'll have some 'splaining to do yourself once Klaus wakes up!

Devo can work like a good jolt of espresso, and I can't think of any better music for Klaus to listen to than Roxy Music since it ties him to strong memories of you.

Keep us posted as you can and know we're still here, still working our mojo, AireZen and prayers. Please tell Bogart we're hoping he gets to move into his dad's room for awhile.

Goober love & juicy smooches,
Stanley

Lulu,
Momma is SOOOOO old she don't even know Whip It! She can sings but we all say shut it Momma, even Daddy-O says tone it down. That means let's not kill a good sing with that voice.
It is brillant you got into ICU, we thought that would be the best medicine of all. DOG POWER.
We are crossing our paws and thinking of you all day and night long.

I'm so happy that Klaus is getting music therapy now. Nothing soothes Mom like her ipod, so I bet Klaus is full of good healing vibes now. I think you and Bogart are doing so many wonderful things to help Klaus recover. It may take time, and you will have those days where nothing changes, but in a way they are good. The body is repairing itself amd making itself better. Lulu, I hope you are eating and taking good care of yourself. Don't make me send you some Kirby kibble now. Please pass on my doggy hugs and licks to Klaus. He is in my whole families thoughts and prayers.

With Love,

Hi Lulu and Bogart,

We want to start with heartfelt apologies that we are only just here to offer our support. We have been a little lax with the blog of late due to a few family drama's and then the kids being on vacation kept us firmly away for the past fortnight, We were horrified to learn of Klaus' condition on our return and feel sickened we have not been around to support and comfort you. We have wept very real tears reading your blog today, our hearts and minds are firmly with you. Distance means that we can't be of much practical help but we wanted you to know that we are here to support you in any way we can and that all of our love, healing energy, rotti zen and prayers are winging their way to you as we type.
Bogart be sure that you give your Mom all the love and support she needs and keep up those visits to Daddy, there is no greater healing power than love.
Lulu, your courage and strength is an inspiration, your love clear and obvious, we are here if you need anything
Klaus, (and we don't care how silly your nurses think this is) a Rotti from the UK and all of his furless family are sending you much love, strength and healing thoughts, we want you well, we want you home to Bogart and Lulu and Rotti's like to think they ALWAYS get what they want.

we love you guys,

Ben, Sue, T, Mollie and Lilli xxxxxx

I agree with the poster who said we hear things when we need to. That song on the radio was not an accident. This has happened to me, many times. A loved one plays songs for me, at "strategic" times. You may be getting encouragement from beyond. Sounds like it.
We are hanging in here with you.

Ciao caro Bogie,

We are rooting for and praying for your whole famiglia, mio amico. My girl says your mama should remember to take a few minutes now and then for a cup of tea or a bite to eat ... or to listen to "Dance Away" on the iPod. Those wonderful nurses will keep an eye on your papa!

Maggie, Mitch and Putter (and your mamas!), you have such big, kind hearts!

Tanti baci!
