My New Ball

Walking around my forest this morning, I saw something beckoning me into the brush. Something irresistible. Something that smelled soooooo good. Something like...

THIS.

This is now my new favorite ball. It's tougher than a tenny, plastic but mushy, and small enough to carry with me easily everywhere I need to go. I'm pretty darned happy with it.

See? It's nothing like my current balls, and holds the slobber nicely.

So mama, don't even THINK of taking this away from me, ok?

Because... it's...

M-I-N-E

Except when you're bringing out my dinner. Then it's fine - you can play with it all you want - just make sure it's where I left it when you're done.

Self Medicating

Who me? Digging a hole? In the backyard? Nah, must have been someone else. Maybe some other Airedale snuck in overnight and dug this fine, fine hole.

See? I'm investigating. Smells like Airedale indeed, but it wasn't me... that is a darned mighty fine hole. Kind of perfect size, just deep enough, nice and long, easy to get some good sniffin' going. OH ALL RIGHT, it was me if you must know. A hole that perfect? MUST HAVE BEEN ME.

While I'm here I think I'll indulge in a little grass therapy. My tummy has been fine but today I was pooping like crazy - dad says that's a good thing as I haven't pooped that much recently - so maybe I need some greens in my diet.

Gotta find the best stuff - none of those nasty weeds you seem to be letting grow like, well, weeds dad...

I tried some of the kohlrabi but it was a little bitter for my taste. I think I'll stick with good old regular grass...

Sometimes the tall ones are tastier - or maybe it's just that they're easier to grab with these scissor teeth of mine...

A little self-medicating makes me a happy dog.

Back into the medicine cabinet...

The Evil Memory Card

So today I got to go out for a really full day of fun - complete with LOTS of photos - and when we got home, mama was so excited she wanted to get working on my blog right away... and when she put the memory card into the reader all she got was a whole lotta NOTHIN'.

Zip. Zero. Nada.

Very odd indeed - there is no reason for the card to fail, and when she tried to take a photo here at home it seemed to work just fine. But all of the photos we took today show up as ZERO. Ah well. A shame, but what can I do - the limitations of the humans' photographic equipment knows no bounds.

We explored the Division Street neighborhood today, sniffing around lots of little cafes, and taking a really nice long walk through the neighborhood. Lots of beautiful houses and pretty gardens. We walked all the way over to Hawthorne and then back, stopped at Petite Provence for a little afternoon snackie, and then went over to the Woodstock neighborhood to visit Otto's Sausage. Dad sidled up to the outdoor sausage makers and got one for us to share - mmmmmmmmmmm. It's a place we'll definitely be visiting again, hopefully mom and I will be able to recreate the golden moments that are missing from today's post.

Tonight dad is making my dinner stew for the week - and he's laughing. Usually I get a mixture of beef hearts, liver, and other gut-ty goodness but this week there was an incredible sale on LONDON BROIL so guess what kind of stew I'm getting this week? OH YEAH, it's all about the London Broil baby. Mama has already noticed how it isn't as stinky in the house as usual when dad is cooking my stew, and I've been helping dad by sampling the stew as it goes along.

The London Broil so far seems up to my standards.

Tiptoe Through the Brambles With Meeeee

I am now officially enamored of the blackberry brambles. There are yummy varmints hiding in there! Not only are there yummy berries, but there are also BUNNIES! I do want to catch a bunny someday (mama is not really thrilled about that...), but for now I'll have to content myself with catching BERRIES...

Hehehe - mom and dad look like they're on stilts and I just look a little tall...

Well if I can't have a bunny then I want something to take home. Check out this stick...

I'm pretty happy with this one. I picked it out from all of the sticks I walked on, by, or past this evening. Pretty good size, weight, and equal branch distribution.

It feels good in my jaws, I like the way it's balanced. Yes, I think this one will do.

Mom's "motion shot" so you can see the most excellent size of this stick.

Sticks now... Bunnies later... Look out you wascally wabbits, I'm comin' for ya!

Berry Good

Just checking out my neighborhood... it's a beautiful day in the neigh-bor-hood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, will you be mine...

I've been keeping up on the progress of the blackberry and raspberry bushes around my main walkie spot lately. They've started sprouting, and the raspberries are getting red...

In a little bit closer just to check on 'em - dad says we'll be making marmelade soon, one of these days we'll head over with our little red pic-a-nic basket and collect a bunch of them so dad can work his magic and make them yummy for breakfast and ice cream coverings...

Blackberries and raspberries... and the bushes and brambles are BRILLIANT!

Look at all of that berry potential. It's BERRY, BERRY GOOD...

Fairs, Fairs, Everywhere!

Pets in the Pearl is today... COME ON DAD, I SMELL DOGS!!!

Pets in the Pearl is pretty cool - lots of vendors and lots of dogs!

Nice people from local Humane Society's (these folks are from the Columbia Humane Society and they were really nice!)...

Stores that sell stuff to spoil us canines... (and I wholeheartedly agree with their motto)

There is so much stuff here, I got a little confused!

And of course, the fine folks who clean carpets! They're a lifesaver!!!

This is the first Saint Bernard butt I've ever sniffed. He's a pretty big boy...

The swag has begun - our bags are slowly getting filled. My cute mug helps a lot when people see me come up to their table... and my butt isn't bad either...

I was heading over to the Petco booth when I scared the daylights out of this little lab puppy just by saying hi. He was a real scaredy-cat. And Petco wanted money for booty, so we moved on.

Ok, WHAT KIND OF DOG IS THIS???

I'm not having any of that, thank you very much.

This is odd... a little bit of pseudo grass for inside for dogs to poop and pee on. I guess I can see what it would be good for, makes me even happier for my backyard!

I just love these festivals - doggie smells everywhere!

Then on the way home we stopped at the German American Fair.

We weren't sure at first if it was dog friendly, but it was indeed...

We were looking for the brass music and bratwurst but there wasn't any! Really nice people tho, we met some really cool people (including a lovely woman who has an Airedale named Gus at home!) and did manage to have a yummy onion cake.

No onion cake for me, eh? Ah well.

And then I met this cutie. Her name is Zita, doesn't she have the coolest eyebrows?

I liked her a LOT. We did some good sniffin' and a little playin' and then it was time to head home for some fine sleepin' out in the backyard. A full day, LOTS of great swag, and I got to sniff girl butts. WOO-HOO!
