Forest Mama

It's Mothers Day!!! I wanted to take my mom to my newest favorite place here in Portland - the Powell Butte Nature Park. It's just behind our house, and dad and I have been there a few times. So today it was family day!

Come on mom, keep up!!!

It's always good to leave a marker so that you can find your way out of the forest... here's mine:

Today we'll take the Black-Tailed Deer trail to the top of the Butte...

Lets goooooooooooooooooo!

I wanted to get some flowers for mom for Mothers Day - I thought this would do nicely...

We're at the top! That means it's time to go back down - and down is fun!

Sometimes getting that perfect shot is WORK. I don't know if everyone realizes how tough it is for me as constant model and celebrity - all of the stopping and posing can take a lot out of a boy. Take these pictures for example:

Trying to get into position...

You want me to go where, mom? Ah well, that's ok - I still LOVE you...

Then I met a pretty girl that I got to sniff a bit - she's a cutie, I hope I see her again!

Happy Mothers Day to all of the doggie mamas and mamas of doggies out there!

Love,

DeeDee's Ball

When I left Los Angeles, I took a little piece of LA with me. I took DeeDee's ball.

Obviously it wasn't her absolute favorite because she gave it to me.

Well, I had it in my mouth and she didn't try to get it back from me so it's mine fair and square, right?

Anyway, I do find this ball very comforting.

Even with all of my drool, it still has some of DeeDee's on it.

I do miss my Boxer friend, so whenever I see her ball I have fond thoughts.

This is my front room.

I was playing with DeeDee's ball when the kitties decided to join mom and me.

Luckily none of the felines decided to try to take it from me, although they were tempted...

Mine mine mine

Then dad and I did a little male bonding - ie, cuddling. I love ya dad...

Garden Supervisor

Who's the boss? I'll give you one guess...

So dad has taken down almost the entire old treehouse - even tho it looked really cool, it had an old wasp nest inside and the wasps were buzzing around looking for their old home... so we broke it up and hauled it away. Well, not actually "we". No hauling for me, somebody has to do all of the REALLY hard work - the supervision.

That's right - I'm the SUPERVISOR. I watch and direct as dad does all of the heavy lifting. And the destruction. And the hauling. And the planting. I made sure that everything was done just as it should be - then I dozed off. It seemed like dad had things under control.

It's GOOD to be in charge...

Sunday on Hawthorne

Today was my first big day out here in Portland - walking around the city, that is, not just patrolling my yard or walking in the forest. Mama wanted to go somewhere that would be walking-friendly, so we hit the Hawthorne district for some midday shenanigans.

First we had lunch at the Hawthorne Fish House - Home of Portland's Best Fish & Chips. And boy was it ever! Both mom (Gardenburger) and dad (fish and chips) said that it was one of the BEST meals they've ever had, and the fries were particularly delish!!! I got to get a little sample and can attest to the yumminess.

Then we walked around for some Airedmiration, popped our heads into some stores, and in general just had a good time.

I like this town a LOT so far - not nearly as hot and dry as Los Angeles, lots of rain and lots of GRASS!!!!

Snoop

What celebrity am I?

A whole bunch of you other dog bloggers have done the Which Celebrity Am I quiz on Dogster, but I haven't had a chance to yet... guess who I am?

What celebrity would your pet be? I'm Snoop Dogg! Find out at Dogster.com

That's right, I'm Snoop Dogg! I think that's pretty appropriate... Bustin' out superfly vocals that keep his lady friends perched, ready and on the edge of their seats, Bogart Handsome Devil knows how to have a good time with his peeps and is not ashamed to show it. A big fan of the bling bling, Bogart Handsome Devil is fashion fit and costume conscious, even willing to go a little over the top at times. Rich like butter and phat with flavor when he rolls, Bogart Handsome Devil is well aware of the heads he turns along the way. Often seen hangin' with the big boys, Bogart Handsome Devil is one tough cookie and knows how to paw his way out of a confrontation. But despite his occasionally feisty flare, Bogart Handsome Devil is romantic and poetic, a true-blue Casanova through and through.

Plant Friendly

So it looks like the humans are thinking about putting some plants in my backyard. Apparently the folks who lived in this house before me had 3 big dogs, one of which they kept chained in the backyard, and they did a lot of damage. We want to get off on the right foot and make the place nice, so we've put down grass seed on the area where the poor doggie was chained (it's verrrrry obvious), and we're filling up holes.

Which brings me to something I hold dear: digging.

Many of you have seen me in all of my digging glory in my old park in Los Angeles. If not, let me refresh your memory:

Yes, I am an Airedale Terrier and I like to dig. That said, mom and dad are thinking that maybe they should take this into account when planning the backyard and garden flora and vegetabalia. Some sort of hedge or vine-type thing along the back fence perhaps, to dissuade me from digging in all of those tasty areas that I've already found where the last dogs liked to try to make their escape? Any ideas for things that should be avoided would be welcome as well.

I also am feeling the loss of my "office" - the space I had in Mareike's yard back in LA - so I'm thinking that I might like to construct a new one, complete with desk lamp and spot for my laptop so that I may blog in peace.

This is their first time doing something like this, so I'm ready to excuse their potential stupidity. At least they're willing to admit to it, and do this RIGHT.

Bog-Land Yard

Ah.... MY yard.

A place where the half-deflated soccer ball can fly free...

We're going to take down that treehouse-like thing sometime to make more room for me to run (and, ahem, some room to plant veggies).

I help mom work on her soccer techniques so that she doesn't get all flabby...

Notice how I try to steal the ball - knees be damned!

THROW THAT BALL!!!

Ah... now I can relax a little with dad. He has a tasty beer, I have a tasty ball. This was a present from Faya (all the way from Switzerland!) for my last birthday... it's one of my faves.

I think I'm gonna like this.

Bad Internet. Down.

Big Aire lovin' to everyone who has written to me sending good vibes for my trip and move to Portland! I made it!!!

Mom and dad are crazy. We drove here in one day from Los Angeles. That's 15 hours in the car. Yes, it's completely insane. But honestly, the kitties were pretty miserable in their carriers and hey, since I wasn't the one driving, it was fine with me. Lots of walkie breaks and yummy rest stops so I wasn't really complaining.

So these are the first - and albeit, crappy - photos of me in my new backyard. Well actually, they're photos of me waiting outside the back door to get back inside to see what all of the fuss is about. Lots of boxes have been opened, stuff is flying around, and ohmydog is there space to run! The kitties are busily finding places to hide, and I'm busy "helping" dad assemble things.

You guys all told me how much fun a backyard is and I really couldn't appreciate it until I had my own. I've got grass, a shed, some concrete, and the all-important mudhole in which to practice my digging. This is HEAVEN!

Mom thinks she's funny teasing me with my surfer-dude stuffie. See how I feign no interest? That's for her own good...

Harumph.

Ok mama, stop playin'... GIMME THAT STUFFIE

More photos to come - we still do not have internet at our house, hopefully the oh-great-bringer-of-internet will be arriving sometime today.

Adios Dale-e-os

Bye Dale-Os!!!! I'm gonna miss you guys more than anything in the world - you've taught me soooooo much about what it means to be an Airedale, put up with me when I messed up, and finally conferred the coveted Summa Cum Quietly diploma upon me when I calmed down and stopped barking for my stick in the backyard. I can't wait until I see you again - you HAVE to visit me in Portland, or I'll steal the keys and take the Bogie-mobile down to see you again sometime.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! AND MAREIKE TOO!!!

Travelling tomorrow morning - this should be interesting... I'll blog if I can and catch up on what everybody is doing once I'm there!!! Thanks for all the love and good wishes everydog!
