Help a Dale in Need

This is a heartbreaking story.

In Oklahoma, a man surrendered 3 Airedales to rescue (I'm going to give him a teensy tiny bit of credit for at least surrendering and not dumping them into a shelter).  The two lovely females are both heavily pregnant, and the male is the daddy.  It appears that these dogs have been used as puppy-making machines based on the history of the man.  The three dogs have lived their lives in a filthy outdoor kennel and have had litter after litter of puppies. They have no social skills and are petrified right now.

This lovely girl-Dale-mama is Pearl:

Pearl is 7, and she is also Lily's mama.  Isn't she gorgeous?  She's just about to have her fine Dale babies.  No puppies for Pearl yet, but she is heartworm negative (yes!), both ears are infected, she has whipworms, and is in need of a dental.

And this pretty girl-Dale-mama is Lily:

Lily is 5, and is one of Pearl's babies.  She is due to have her pups at the end of February.
This is Crockett, super-Dale-dad.

Poor guy, must be scared out of his mind.  And then a bath?  Geez...  Crockett is a beautiful boy, and the father of both girl-Dales litters.

Got some cash?  They sure could use it right now.  We could only spare a little, but every little bit adds up.

Here is a direct Paypal link to help out these sweet Dales:  For Pearl, Lily, Crockett and their Pups

Got no cash?  You can still help! We are leading an effort to win The Animal Rescue Site's Challenge (along with petfinder.com) to get badly-needed funds to help out these sweet (and many other) Dales.

Each link will take you to The Animal Rescue Site.  Search for Oklahoma Airedale Terrier Rescue.  They are located in Oklahoma City, OK.

DO IT TODAY.  DO IT DAILY.  DO IT FROM EVERY COMPUTER YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON. We have no connection with the OK Airedales rescue group (we live in Philadelphia, after all), but we have been really touched by this story, and we're always happy to help out some Dales in need.

Pearl-s of Wisdom

Mama broke her toe the other day... the little pinkie one, the one that should really be the least important one yet when it's large and purple it's really the most important one. I too have stubbed my fuzzy toes before and remember that yes it does hurt but that's no reason why we shouldn't go for a walkie. I always forget about the pain after a few blocks, so reason goes that she should too.

Something we've never noticed before near the South Park Blocks...

Come in a little closer...

Yes, it is a salmon - on the corner of Salmon Street (these humans think they're SO FUNNY sometimes)...

Back in the Pearl, this is another little cove that I visit on occasion but don't think I've ever been photographed in. It used to be the entrance to an art gallery, now there is some art store there. But it's really a lovely little oasis...

The water isn't really drinkable though, and since it's not moving it's not that interesting either.

Ha! There's mama in the reflection. I'd know that red hair anywhere!

These are pieces of the original freeway that ran through the Pearl District before it was the Pearl District. Apparently most of what we walk in and where we live used to be industrial areas. But these are cool and help keep some of the original character of the neighborhood.

Notice the wild animals in the column and the wild animal comin' at ya... Woo! Hoo!

Outdoor Aire-t

You all know what an aficionado I am of outdoor art... I see it and I have to investigate. This pink concrete chair is just outside the building we live in, I see it all the time, but it has only recently become Pepto Bismol pink. I must check this out.

Hm. What do I have that's pink? Something that will complement the pink of the art chair?

And the traditional "looking magnificent" pose...

Mama always says that I am a work of art - and I intend to prove her right at every opportunity. Look out public art!!!

My Red Raincoat

Portland + April = RAIN

But no worries... I AM PREPARED

The rain doesn't even slow me down... when I am wearing my spiffy red raincoat! The pine cone search must go on...

Whether they are in the aire...

Or on terra firma.

Springtime also = pretty tulips. Notice how the red of the flowers complements the red of my raincoat.

And the pink of my tongue (flecked with various pine cone pieces) also adds to the spring-y picture?

Mama thought at this point that the camera was going to be out of battery - ha! It can blink red all it wants, when there is this much cuteness going on even the camera knew it couldn't quit...

Just try to resist me!!!

Oh, you think you are going to crap out on me, do you battery? I will just bust out the big guns...

Now even though many of my raincoat photos look absolutely perfect when you see them, things don't always go as smoothly as they look.

Sometimes I do have to move around a lot to keep that damn hood off of my head.

Did I mention that I don't really like the hood?

I mean it's kind of funny and all (funny that you humans think that we dogs like hoods), but who says I have to wear it on top of my head?

I could wear it jauntily off to one side...

Or try to squiggle out of it.

Now this is getting embarrassing.

Oh mama, do you really want people to see me like this? Or better yet, do you want me to be able to see at all?

Oh lookie - a picture of something that is NOT me in my raincoat. Mama and I were really amazed by the vibrant purple flowers on this tree. They are really that bright!

The rain is about to start again... time to head for home. Gotta get started on my chicken soup, don't you mama?

First a final bit of majestic posing.

And shaking.

And wistful daydreaming.

Oh the heck with that... time to JUMP UP!!!

And JUMP DOWN!!!

A final walk around what mama calls the "little dog toilet" - an area where all of the little doggies do their business and not as many people pick it up as other places. Yep, it's a little dog toilet. Smells fine to me tho...

And heading for home... just as the rain starts up again. Perfect!

Saturday... In the Park...

I think it was some day in September... (not July as the song in your head may now be singing).

Saturday mornings require bagels as fuel. The Bogcedes requires gasoline, I require pumpernickel. And since there are chores in my near future, make sure I get a whole one, ok?

I stop at all of the local stores to check out their water bowls, you know, make sure that they are up to "code". This one always meets my standards.

Yep, fresh and tasty.

Have I ever showed you the William Wegman dog bowl here in the Pearl District? Dedicated in 2002, it's supposed to look like his kitchen floor with a dog bowl in the center.

The bowl has water that bubbles up from below, but generally the water level is substandard. Dribbly might be the best way to describe it. More often I'm tempted to pee on it than actually drink from it. Now if they would pump a little more water into it, it would be AWESOME.

Chores got us both down today. It was unseasonably hot. We were cranky. So we walked up to the top of Mt. Tabor for a little clarity, and well, shade.

Dirty bowl does not necessarily equal unsavoryness to me. Bowl cleanliness - while important - is sometimes trumped by my desire for WATER, NOW.

After some serious cone time, the 'stache gets extra tasty. Fresh water, semi-dirty water, who cares?

OH YEAH.

Bogart
