Bone-a-holic
I consider myself a pro at this chomping thing, yet mama always insists on watching me until the entire bone has disappeared. Fine with me - if I was just chomping bones all alone that would mean that I have a PROBLEM.

Wat-Aire-Logged
What happens when it's raining outside and you have a crazy mama? YOU GET REALLY WET
Walking in the rain is FUN. I like to do it anytime, mama prefers it for the evening walkie when she doesn't have to then get dressed and go to work. Sounds fair enough.
Mama's hair was losing color as we ran, sending sheets of pink water all over her face and neck. Looked pretty strange. But she's used to that...
Thank goodness I have a crazy mama. Great minds think alike!

Walk Not, Poop Not
Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night shall stop the red-raincoat-ed Airedale in his nightly rounds.
I don't care if it's raining, I HAVE TO POOP. And I will not compromise on it's placement. I can't just poop on command, you know (actually I can, but no reason to let the humans in on that secret, eh?). I must first walk a bit, stretch the muscles, and get ready for the mighty evening poop.
Hm. Poop in the "little dog toilet" area, or wait for something more scenic? THE AGONY OF CHOICE
In the end, I chose to go with the little dog toilet area. Since no other doggies were around, it was fine for my purposes. And mama is getting cranky in the rain (apparently while she managed to dress me in my raincoat, she forgot to put the hood on hers. I keep trying to tell her that HOODS SERVE NO PURPOSE but she just DOES NOT LEARN).
Go home, you say? I don't think so. I am not going to let a little torrential downpour ruin my evening walkie. In fact, I am going to find the biggest stick I can just to show you that I am not ready to go home yet...
Come on mama! Only an hour to go!

Rainbows, Unicorns, and Sprinkles
Behold - a rainbow over the Pearl District...
And it is raining, nay, sprinkling (the real rain is obviously still working it's way into town)...
And ok, so he's not a unicorn - he's a tiny doggie in a car - but he was hilarious and made me both curious and laugh out loud (kind of like if a unicorn was locked in a car on a street in NW Portland).
He was barking his little head off but you couldn't hear a thing. The only reason we noticed him at all was because he was jumping straight up and down on the passenger seat - you couldn't help but see his energy - and when you got up close you could hear that he really was making a sound - but just a few feet away, nothin'. Just imagine him with a single horn growing out of his cute little head and bingo - rainbows, unicorns, and sprinkles. A full day here in Portland.

Here Comes the Rain Again
Falling on my fuzz like a memory
Falling on my head and my paws and my stump...

Happy New Yaire!
So how did YOU spend the first few hours of 2009? Sleeping off the night before? Continuing the party from the night before? Not I - a morning walkie is IMPERATIVE, I don't care if there is a torrential rain...
There are sticks to be collected - I've been trying to convince mama and dad that these are for the fireplace, but just between you and I they're not... they are for my personal use in the backyard. Don't tell 'em ok?
While the rain isn't great, I've gotta say that I still like it compared to the massive snow. The city of Portland just shut down during our snowstorm, and that was not fun.
So did you or your humans do anything crazy last night? Here at the Handsome Devil household, we really do know how to par-tay. You know, getting nuts, drinking too much, breaking things, etc. Just not this year...
Yup, I climbed into bed with dad to watch some TV.
Note the extended paw for more extreme relaxation.
Every once in awhile I'd look up to see if the ball was dropping, but mostly it was just something on the History or Discovery Channel. Woo-hoo - PARTY ANIMALS..
Hope you all have a very happy and healthy 2009!

What a Difference a Day Makes...
WOW. Can you believe that just yesterday this was under almost a whole foot of snow?
Yep, this is where I take my morning walkies, and for the last week or so it's been kind of treacherous. Almost 2 feet of snow and ice was here - the last full snow was on Christmas day - until it started to rain yesterday. And rain, and rain, and rain...
I'm quite happy about it, although I will miss the snow. It was my first real snow so I shall always have fond memories of jumping in it and smooshing my face deep into a nice, frosty pile.
But the good thing is that now since the snow is gone, we can drive again! Yes, we were housebound for over a week, only able to get out to walk around a bit before we got cold and scared of falling on ice. So we decided to do a little walkie tour of Hawthorne Blvd. as we haven't been here in awhile... I paused to check on some of the last snow piles - some definite yellow-ness in there - just to make sure there weren't any overdue messages for me...
Nope, no messages. Onward ho!
Ah, the Portland Pet Supply. I always love this place, it smells so good inside. But alas, they are not open on Sundays, even for a special visit from me...
I even got my head all the way inside the bars to check - just to be sure - that they were indeed closed. Yup.
It's ok - there is still plenty to see, sniff, and poop on. I almost caught mama and dad off-guard, as they haven't been used to bringing poopie bags with them for awhile now... when I've gotta go, I've gotta go, poopie bag or not! Luckily there was still one in dad's pocket, so they were spared - this time.
This sign made mama giggle - and she thought that some of you doggies might have mama's that would giggle about this as well...
Ah, a nice long walkie accomplished, time to get back into the Bogcedes and head for home. A lot of the time when I ride in the back seat (I call it the Chairman's Quarters), I lay down and put my head up onto the back of either mama or dad's seat and rest like this. I find it relaxing and reassuring to have my nose right up against mama or dad's necks...
And I know that mama especially likes to feel some manly beard on her shoulder...
And some hot canine breath...
And of course, THE BUTTON
Love,
Bogart
