A Weeks Worth

Of fun, frivolity, and baking hot sun that is.

Continued testing with the cooling vest has been nothing short of a complete success - longer walkies have been accomplished and more precious cones have been gathered.

See?

We also swung through the early Bastille Day celebration here in the Pearl District - not much for doggies to do this time around.

The place was swarming with overly-caffeinated children and slow-moving adults. Not really my cup of tea, and I didn't see any dog-related booths so oh well.

Jamison Square - where the Bastille Day celebrations took place - is one of the parks that I visit daily in my quest to pee and poop over everything here in Portland. On the hot weekends it becomes almost a beach - children running wildly in the fountain, adults variously chasing said children and lying on the grass, lots of weird chalk writing and odd foodstuffs left behind. So I am just doing my part by "leaving something behind" - I poop here during the week, so you fancy Pearl-people may lay on it during the weekend. A fair trade, I think.

With all of that ruckus, a boy has to go outside of the park to find a decent stick. I found three. And carried them all around NW Portland. Kind of like recycling - but not.

That's Disgusting

Humans can be so strange.

Mama and I had to be over in the SE today, so we stopped at our usual haunt, Panera, for a quick bite. We were sitting outside, and after I jumped into mama's lap (as is my habit) she rewarded me with a piece of yummo mozzarella from her sandwich. Just as that cheese made it past my molars, a man who was walking by stopped and loudly said to us, "That's Disgusting".

Mama first just glared and him and as I stood on her lap I also gave him stink eye. He just stood there. So mama said to him, "Oh, so you like to watch?". He looked flustered, and repeated "that's disgusting", so mama took the remainder of the sandwich (almost a full half) and gave it to me. He made a face, a noise, and walked off.

So to that obnoxious, obviously intellectually-challenged, and did-I-mention-ugly loser I say, Thanks Pal! I would never have gotten so much yummy sandwich without you!

Time to get that bad taste out of mama's mouth. I'm going to find her something pretty.

I'm always up for picking the flowers (well, does plundering count?) but she never lets me. Another time perhaps.

Bastille Day celebration in the Pearl... again, these festivals are so bittersweet for us. Dad was here with us last year, and we also saw a cool car like this... hey, you can see me in the reflection on the door!

Lots of people including this fine specimen, who tried to pet me and then tried to talk to mama. He doesn't look like a quick learner, but HE WAS.

And lots of doggies... they were ALL smart.

I didn't snag any swag, but we did walk by and sniff a lot of yummy things. I was interested in the French food, mama more so in the French pastries. Either way = YUM!

Vive la France!

Vive L'Airedale!

Celebration time! While it's not officially Bastille Day until Monday, here in Portland they were having a festival today so you know me and dog-friendly festivals... I looked around the house for something french-y to wear but alas, didn't have anything. So I put on my spiffy Swiss bandana (from the lovely Faya) and off we went in the Bog-cedes.

There were several bakeries, some live music, the Oregon Humane Society (most important to me, of course, better than the bakeries...), and lots and lot of kiddos.

There is a big fountain right in the center of the park area, so lots of kids come here to run in the water and cool down. Now you know that I'm not a water-lovin' dog, and little kids make me a little nervous sometimes, so we looked around for other things to see...

Check out the cool wheels! Wouldn't mom and I look super spiffy in this?

I couldn't find that much else that really interested me. Then again, it was pretty darned hot out there today. Maybe it's time to move on to somewhere with tasty beverages...

Time to try new places. We found the Rogue Brewpub and sat ourselves down. Lunchtime!

Notice the all-too-common body language coming from dad. Yes indeed, we seem to have found a place with minimal-to-lousy service yet again. Why do they always ignore us? Keep us waiting for menus, drinks, food, the check, and can you spare even a tiny bowl of water for the panting dog???

I put on my cute face and everything. HOW COULD THIS NOT WORK???

Alas, we probably won't be eat here again. The humans thought the food and the beer was ok, but the service was slow and lousy. And of course there is that little issue of no water bowls for all of the dogs outside (especially the handsome Airedale)...

So lets walk around a little... I hear there is something going on in Pioneer Square today dad...

It's the Keen Stand Festival. Looks like we missed most of the excitement.

But ya know what? These bricks are HOT! I'm doing my Mexican jumping bean impersonation here...

So it's back to the Bog-cedes for us, and my sensitive pawsies. On the way out mom spied this:

OF COURSE we relish the dog mom, I know you love me!!! Oh wait, that's a different kind of dog they're talking about...

Keep cool!
