Is There Anyone Out There?

If it's Thanksgiving, then it must be the National Dog Show on TV! I always tune in to see what my fellow terriers are up to.

This was the Airedale - a handsome devil from what I can see, but I can't see much.

They didn't actually show the Airedale's performance - and while I am interested in the other terriers, I did really want to see the Airedale strut his stuff. I mean, even though he's pretty blurry here, how can you have a dog show without the King of Terriers?

Mama and I decided to spend Thanksgiving together, the entire day, as I am the thing she is the most thankful for this year and she is my most thankful thing in return.

We are both equally thankful for the kitties, but they weren't interested in exploring the city during the rain (and even some snow!) today with us. We threw caution to the wind, going outside without my raincoat.

It's very strange to be in a big city on a major holiday - the streets are empty, devoid of people and other dogs. I like it because it means that I get more room to roam.

And Rittenhouse Square Park is MINE, ALL MINE I say!

I have assumed since I got here that this lovely park belongs to me, but haven't had any proof until today. And the newest decorations are lovely, I approve.

I would like to see it lit up, as I noticed there was a plug and all, so perhaps another time, eh?

You would think that because it was raining we would walk less and just do a quick turn through the park, but you would be wrong. Rain does not deter this Dale in the dispatch of his duties - and today doody is my duty - so I shall do a thorough exploration of "my" park without any pesky interruptions from people who think I'm adorable or dogs who might want to wrassle.

And I am thankful for ALL OF YOU, my faithful readers, who tune in to hear the almost-daily ramblings of this Dale. You make my butt wiggle!

Holiday Season... GO!

Hey mama - what are we doing here? They're lighting up the Christmas Tree in Pioneer Courthouse Square tonight and I WANNA GO

A quick ride into town - it got awfully dark awfully fast - and we're HERE!!! There is going to be music, performances, and then the tree lighting! Lots of people (makes me a little teensy bit nervous, but ultimately I did ok) and lots of dogs!

Party like a ROCKSTAR

Hey, what happened to my ears? Yup, I'm particularly fuzzy these days, mama mentioned that there will be some hair removal coming soon to which I say Nay, Not Necessary...

I've gotta protect my mama from any evildoers who get too close... I know she appreciates this...

Woo-hoo - the colors, the colors...

There were SO many people, they had projections on the buildings, and the tree was just about to be lit... and we just couldn't get a good photo of it. Too many people standing around, and traffic folks trying to keep us all moving.

So what is a dog to do? That's right, turn around and HEAD FOR FOOD

Time for a Gyro at the local food carts. Downtown Portland has some very cool areas where they have collections of food carts in parking lots - so you can get pretty much any kind of food you want in a nice takeout container, all right next to each other.

This was our first time at the falafel and gyro cart. The man who runs it even makes his own hot sauce (which was YUMMY). Mama had a hummus sandwich (which was good) and dad had a gyro (which was great)

After so much excitement, this is what the world looked like... I must be having a GOOD TIME...

Happy beginning of the holiday season everyone!

Great Eating on the 4th

No better way to celebrate the independence of America than doing something that we are really, really good at - The Nathans Hot Dog Eating Competition!

Today is an epic matchup - Kobayashi vs. Chestnut - for the rights to the Mustard Belt. Already there is controversy over the shortening of the contest from 12 minutes to 10 minutes. Will that make a difference to these athletes?

Kobayashi was the 6-time champion until he was upset last year by local boy, Chestnut, so this year is a GRUDGE MATCH

The competitive eaters from all over are assembled - some great costuming this year! - and the fun facts about all of the competitors are priceless. In order to ascend the heights of the Nathans contest, you have to prove your intestinal mettle as a champion in some other eating pantheon - today there were brisket eaters, cheese fry specialists, sushi specialists, and hard-boiled egg eaters.

I'm thinking that maybe I could start training for such a thing, dad... maybe starting with some tasty beef heart perhaps?

I'm studying the great Kobayashi's technique as I chew myself...

Ready for the next one dad... keep 'em coming!

Maybe some decorative face paint will improve my chances like this guy?

I noticed that all the competitors have a technique of eating and drinking at the same time, so I head over to my Drinkwell so that I can eat more...

In the end it was HISTORIC - never in the Nathans history has there been a TIE!!! 59 dogs in 10 minutes! So they had to have a DOG OFF (don't worry doggies, it's not what you're thinking...) where they had to go head-to-headand whoever ate 5 dogs the fastest would win. IT WAS NAIL BITING...

In the end Chestnut was victorious, so the Mustard Belt stays in the USA! I'm kind of sad for Kobayashi, he's a great competitor with amazing technique (cannonballing those dogs by folding them in half, genius!) as he's had some injuries (jaw-thritis), but I'm happy to hear that he will stay in competitive eating and be back next year!!!

Cone Plus Grass Equals FUN

Running through my field of green on St. Patty's Day!!!

Now where did I leave that tasty pine cone?

Was it here?

No, wait. YOU HAVE IT, DON'T YOU???

Foul woman, HAND OVER THAT CONE!

AHA! I just KNEW you had it...

Hand over that tasty cone...

Oh, you wish to throw it to me, do you? Well that's fine with me, give it your best shot...

THROW IT! THROW IT! THROW IT!!!

Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine

Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum

I can't trust you not to take it again, Mom. I'm off to my lair where I'm KING OF THE CONES...

New Years Resolutions

I'm not really good at making resolutions, so I thought I'd try out something relatively easy...

For one month (more if I make it!) I'm resolving to post at least a Picture of the Day, if not a full post. Mama and I realized that at times days go by without us updating and that's just completely unacceptable.

So - here goes. Picture of the Day.
