Bogart in Belmont

Another weekend in Portland, another street fair. I've gotta say that I love this street fair thing, it gives us all a chance to explore neighborhoods that we might not normally visit! Today we're doing the Belmont Street Fair...

First things first - check messages, see who has been here before...

Then look at all of the brightly-colored things...

Ok this freaked me out - it was a stuffed tree (ahem, with a HUMAN inside) - and I was mightily displeased at it's existence. I kept barking at it but it wouldn't go away... so I suppose that I must be the intelligent one and walk in a different direction...

This way mama... AWAY from the walking tree that I cannot pee on...

One seater car? With no place for me as co-pilot? FAIL...

No such thing as a vehicle without space for Bogart. Right mama?

This one might be cool... if it goes fast enough for me to keep my head out of the window, ears flapping in the breeze...

Hey, cool old firehouse!

They have a cool museum inside with old steam engines...

And they even have a fire hydrant conveniently placed for their canine visitors, for leaving messages and relieving stress...

Ok, so maybe it's not for canine benefit. Thanks for letting me know mama before I left them a little, ahem, present...

Walking around the street fair made us all thirsty. Since things were pretty crowded there we figured we'd head over to Amnesia brewpub for some tasty brewskis...

Oh yeah, this place is n-i-c-e...

Love,

Bogart

Bones & Brews

Mama and dad HAD to make up to me for not taking me along to Flugtag yesterday. I only see mama two days a week for the whole day, and when she chooses to spend one of those whole days somewhere else, well, I'm not a happy boy. We had thought about going to the Bones & Brews festival, but then dad didn't want to go, then he did, so since I want to go pretty much anywhere we all piled into the Bogie-mobile for a ride into the Pearl.

How can you not love an outdoor rib barbecue that's won this many awards, I ask you? The smell was making me NUTSO...

The Bones & Brews festival was a benefit for the Oregon Zoo so we were happy to make our little donation and enjoy some fine outdoor doggie time. LOTS of other pups there today, the butt sniffin' was GOOD!

Grrr. More barbecue and meaty-sandwich goodness. It's really torture to not bust out of my collar and run over for some self serve.

This Border Collie was giving it the old college try - standing up on two legs to get some freebies. Nice work!

It actually got kind of warm outside today after a gloomy start. Notice the tongue hanging out. That means that I'm THIRSTY mama...

I've heard they have some stuff for doggies to drink, lets go find it!

Hm. Not here. That's where the humans go to sit while they eat (they are AWFULLY primitive, aren't they?)

So I stopped to ask this guy - a cool Bulldog - he seemed like he might know where the doggie beer station was.

He pointed me in the right direction and off we went.

Here it is - Barley Brew for dogs - guess I have to sample it...

Yup I'm thirsty, but nope I'm not interested in the Barley Brews. They had chicken and beef flavors but I wasn't biting. Great idea, tho!

Back to my one man greeting team...

This guy was a cutie pie - but when I went in for a good sniff he smelled CLEAN. Oh no, tell me they don't have...

A DOG WASH! Noooooooooooooooooooooo

I tried to organize a "jail break", this little frenchie was willing to follow my lead and make a break for it before they broke out the suds.

FOLLOW ME IF YOU WANT TO STAY FUNKY

Here's what I think of your stinkin' dog wash...

Another cutie pie - made me think of Miss Lorenza - I don't see many Dachshunds!

Whew - guess I'm far enough away from that nasty dog wash to be safe.

Look at the size of that dog!!! And there wasn't just one, there was also a black Great Dane they are HUGE!!!

So Bones & Brews... not too shabby!

Fun Fun Friday

So dad said that he had to do some errands today... snore. It just sounded so b-o-r-i-n-g. And it's actually HOT here today, so I was afraid I'd be stuck in a hot car waiting outside some nameless building for him... But then mom said she was going too so IT'S PARTY TIME...

Dad actually only had one errand to do - he just took the test to be a certified food and beverage handler here in Oregon, and he had to go to the office to finalize his test (he passed with flying colors!). So mom and I waited for him outside (no dogs inside apparently... bastards).

Mama and I did a patrol - checked the perimeter of the building - to make sure it was safe for dad. And yes, I can report that all was safe.

Then I was sure that he must be missing me (he was inside for awhile), so I placed myself right at the front door so he couldn't miss me. I wouldn't want him to be scared!

Since we were already in the Milwaukee area, dad suggested we go down to the river and see what we can see. So this was the very first thing I saw, and I APPROVE...

It's awfully pretty here, and today is just lovely. The Willamette River isn't really clean, but there were people swimming in it, riding boats in it, and fishing in it. I contented myself with running, jumping, and exploring the land and NOT the water.

Isn't that a cool-looking bridge? Wait until you see it up close..

It's ALL WOOD!!! Neato!!!

Dad had heard about a place called Elk Rock Island, so we drove around until we found the entrance to that...

Now supposedly, there is a land bridge that connects where we are to Elk Rock Island.

See those tiny people? Guess what. The land bridge isn't there because the water is too high. They were kind of crazy, walking through waist-high water to get to the trail on that island. I sure wasn't going there (and mom agreed)...

Hehehe, I'M NOT GETTING WET dad...

I knew that something smelled awfully good tho, something I haven't smelled since the last time I was at Echo Park lake back in Los Angeles... I KNOW, IT'S GOOSE POOP!!!

Tiring. Whatta day. So much excitement when I expected none. Luckily Portland is a town full of brewpubs where a dog can rest his weary haunches with a beer and some nachos. This one is famous - The Lucky Labrador - it has a big back patio where dogs are welcome so LETS GO!!!

See that cool mosaic? I was certainly impressed with their decorator.

I met lots of doggies while I was there but curiously they were ALL labrador retrievers! At first I thought that was odd, maybe it was for Labs only, but then I realized that it was for all doggies, there are just a LOT of labs here in Portland! This girl was a cutie-pie with a great-smelling butt.

OF COURSE we need to have another beer, and bring on the nachos!

Love,

Bogart
