Iron Butterfly

Look at that... up in the sky... it's a bird, it's a plane, no...

It's butterflies made out of old soda cans.

Pretty darned cool, eh?  Saw them on our way to watch the Pride Parade today.  Happy Pride Month everyone - Lots of rainbow lovin' all around!

Stop the Pigeon...

In walking around Old City tonight, mama and I stumbled onto this scene:

We walk past here all of the time, and it's usually an empty lot.  The chair caught mama's attention, but the pigeons caught mine.

Ah, it's art.

You could have fooled me.  I was pretty intent on getting at some of those tasty pigeons.
I stared at them for quite awhile, waiting for one to make a move closer to my mouth.  Alas, they don't move at all.  Cool for mama, disappointing for me.

Airedale Art Critic

So... we are supposed to head over to the waterfront to see some new interactive art-thingy. Apparently mama is still a bit confused, because we crossed over to the other side of the bridge from where it was happening. See those floaty things? I sure do.

They have caught my attention and mesmerized me even from this far away.

Come on, I wanna see the art!

Light Drift is an interactive riverfront lighting experience presented by the Mural Arts Program as part of DesignPhiladelphia here in Philly. Right now it looks like alien pods landing in extremely tight formation on the Delaware.

I am confused.

And kind of excited.

The signage tells us that yes, we are in the right place and these are the soon-to-be-glowing orbs we are looking for.

Soon we began to quickly lose light, and...

Those suckers started to glow! I went in for a closer look and full inspection of these funny pods.

I even tried to hop in to see if I could get to the bottom of what was making them glow and change color. No dice.

But as it got darker they glowed even more and it was really lovely. Some ambient, atmospheric music played over loudspeakers and I was moved.

Aliens... or art? I vote for art (with some cool alien touches). Unless the aliens are just really, really cool.

I tell ya Philadelphia, we are liking you more and more.

The Urban Oasis

I think I've mentioned it before, but near my apartment there is a fantastic place that had been, well, lacking in the last few months. Something so wonderful that I would walk here before or after almost all walkies. An Urban Oasis if you will, a spot to stop and slurp the water, the "paws that refreshes".

It is the William Wegman (he of the fine Wiemaraner photos) Public Dog Bowl. An ever-running bowl of love here in the North Park Blocks.

Over the last few months, I'd noticed that it wasn't so much running as dribbling and have not paid it much mind. Not tasty nor interesting. But a few days ago I witnesed the bowl being serviced and thought that good things were 'a comin...

The bowl is supposed to represent his kitchen floor... and I wholeheartedly approve.

Today the water was tasty and refreshing, and more importantly, running like a champ.

Thanks, WW! And give those fine Wiemaraners a big, sloppy, bearded kiss from me!
